As sustainability continues to rank high on the corporate agenda, companies are increasingly looking for ways to upskill and create meaningful engagement opportunities for their employees. That’s what the Planet Impact Program is about, by connecting corporate professionals with environmental organisations through structured, time-bound pro bono projects.
Earlier this year, Milkywire and Accenture ran a pilot of the program in Sweden, demonstrating how such collaborations can create clear value for both sides. For the participating organisations, this support addresses real needs. Those working on the frontlines of climate change often operate with limited resources. An extra pair of hands can make a big difference, but bringing in external expertise in areas such as communication, operations or tech often exceeds available budgets. For the companies and employees participating, they can gain valuable experience and deepen their sustainability knowledge.
The pilot attracted strong interest from local Accenture employees and environmental organisations alike, underlining the demand for this type of collaboration.
A pilot in practice
Over the course of two weeks, earlier this year, select Accenture consultants collaborated virtually and pro-bono with three organisations in Milkywire’s network, ranging from mangrove restoration groups to teams advancing permanent carbon removal technologies.
They contributed with pro bono support, focusing on strategy, data, and operations. The impact was immediate and clear. One organisation developed new tracking tools and frameworks to strengthen program delivery. Another improved its risk assessment and planning processes. A third built data dashboards that will continue to guide its work well beyond the project. The pilot was a success with every participant expressing interest in taking part again.
“The Accenture team has empowered us to make new tools and data dashboards and showed us how to properly involve Gen AI. After this project, we feel totally capable of taking over and keep iterating it according to our needs.” CEO, carbon removal company
The consultants also highlighted the benefits of the experience. Working alongside mission-driven organisations increased their sense of purpose and gave them the chance to grow professionally while building sustainability knowledge.
“It is very valuable to me that my employer offers pro bono opportunities as it allows me to contribute to meaningful causes, gain experience in new sectors, and take on greater responsibility,” said one participant.
What’s next
Building on the learnings from the pilot, the Planet Impact Program is now inviting a small number of companies to join the next phase, set to begin in early 2026.
Participation offers the chance not only to engage employees and support frontline organisations, but also to be part of shaping how the program evolves. It is an exclusive opportunity for companies that want to combine professional development with credible, hands-on contributions to climate and nature solutions.
