Selecting the most promising projects
01 /
Top-tier selection
Our open and competitive Request for Proposal process ensures fairness, transparency, and establishes a strong pool of candidates, ensuring we identify the most promising projects within the ecosystem. Our track record shows we consistently attract large and diverse pipelines of projects, with thousands of applicants to date, spanning over 80+ countries.

02 /
Rigorous review
We perform an initial review to narrow down projects, advancing only those that best align with our goals and criteria. Shortlisted projects undergo a thorough integrity review grounded in the latest science, which is tailored to the project’s type and its unique risks and benefits. This review is carried out using a method that is both expert-led and standardized, applying a comprehensive framework to ensure consistency, transparency, and rigor. In-depth follow-up discussions by our experts allow us to also evaluate each team's capacity to deliver.

Expert-led
Our advisory groups, curated for their expertise, thought leadership, and integrity, play a key role in this process by validating the assessments made by our experts and providing additional perspectives and deeper insights on specific topics.

Compliance-checked
When we have identified the most promising projects, a standard due diligence screening is conducted to verify that organizations are compliant and trustworthy. This includes for example financial-crime-related screenings, an assessment of the internal control environment of the organisation and its legal status.

Monitoring progress for accountability and impact
01 /
Active engagement and dialogue
To ensure accountability and measure real impact, we use a robust system of reporting, dialogue, verification, and financial oversight. Projects provide self-reported data on KPIs and funding use, helping us track progress, identify challenges, and ensure the anticipated climate impact is delivered. Reporting occurs twice a year, providing structured insights into each project’s progress.

Active engagement and dialogue

02 /
Structured progress reporting
We establish strong relationships with project teams and follow up with them directly, fostering open communication to capture qualitative insights, assess risks, and explore adaptations or emerging opportunities. This layer of engagement ensures we understand progress beyond what is reported and can support projects in achieving their intended outcomes.

03 /
Financial oversight and control
Our advisory group provides an additional layer of review, triangulating findings with external expertise to ensure a thorough and balanced assessment of each project’s ongoing effectiveness and potential impact. In addition, projects undergo periodic financial audits to verify that funding is used as agreed and resources are managed responsibly.

04 /
Field verification
Finally, field visits to community-based projects that have been supported for at least three years allow us to validate outcomes on the ground and witness real-world changes. These visits provide firsthand evidence of impact and a deeper understanding of how projects affect communities and ecosystems.
Together, these steps strengthen our monitoring process, helping refine project selection and future support while ensuring meaningful, lasting impact.
