Expert-led project selection and oversight

Our team of skilled portfolio managers and impact experts leads the selection, oversight, and success of our climate and nature initiatives. With deep expertise in environmental science, sustainability policy, and project finance, they ensure that every project meets our high standards. Supported by an external advisory group, they carefully evaluate and prioritize projects that offer substantial environmental and social benefits, ensuring that our contributions are both essential and impactful. Through close collaboration, meticulous oversight, and scientific rigor, our team maximizes the positive impact of every project, advancing our mission for a more sustainable future.

Robert Höglund is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and climate policy expert. In addition to managing the Climate Transformation Fund, he co-founded the CDR market overview CDR.fyi, works with the NGO Carbon Gap, and publishes reports and articles on carbon removal and corporate climate contributions. He is a member of the EU Expert Group on Carbon Removals, the Science-based Target initiative's (SBTi) Technical Advisory Group, and the board of the KTH-led research program Mistra sustainable consumption. Robert previously headed Oxfam Sweden's policy and communications team and founded the Climate Goal Initiative in Sweden.

Natalya holds a PhD in Environmental Science and has previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher on International Forest Policy at the Department of Forest Science at the University of Helsinki. There she focused on the forest-climate nexus in implementation of the EU climate commitments. Natalya has extensive experience working as a consultant in natural resource management and development of sustainability policies for several international and donor organizations such as UNEP, UNDP, and GIZ.

Anna Samuelsson is a sustainable development expert with over 15 years of experience in financing social and environmental projects globally. With an LL.M. from Uppsala University, Anna specializes in compliance, due diligence, and anti-fraud measures, ensuring robust risk mitigation and quality. Her background in human rights and social development allows her to integrate social and environmental factors for maximum co-benefits and lasting impact.

Jill Raval is a sustainability expert specializing in marine and freshwater ecosystem conservation and sustainable finance. Her career has been marked by significant roles at the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), where she led over ten projects to approval by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Jill’s contributions include prominent initiatives in conservation finance, freshwater and marine governance, blue economy and wastewater management. She has actively worked with NGOs, CSOs, and intergovernmental agencies to advance sustainability practices. A graduate of the Stockholm Resilience Center, Jill’s research there provided deeper insights into the blue economy and the financial sector's role in sustainable practices. Currently, she works as our Senior Impact & Partnership Manager, managing some of Milkywire's nature related funds.

Annika Richter is a carbon finance and sustainable energy expert. Having previously served as the Regional Manager East Africa for Atmosfair, she has extensive experience in carbon project development, corporate climate action, and host country carbon market policy. She is a founder of the Tanzania Climate Network in Dar es Salaam, where she resides part-time. Annika has consulted for several international organisations, including GIZ, USAID and MECS, and leads the carbon market workstream of the FCDO-funded UK-Tanzania Green Growth Facility.

Our team is highly diverse, with many colleagues coming from various backgrounds and countries, including the United States, India, Germany, and Russia. Our founder’s story

Milkywire’s founder, Nina Siemiatkowski, has always had an independent spirit and a passion for nature. After a successful career in finance and as head of marketing at a leading Swedish company, Nina felt unfulfilled. She made a bold change, returning to her original love of photography and traveling to Kenya to document a pride of lions. This experience, captured in her book The Book of Leon, opened her eyes to the urgent need for environmental protection as she witnessed the rapid decline in wildlife populations.

Working with local nonprofits in Kenya, Nina saw firsthand the challenges these organizations faced—committed teams working against immense odds with limited resources. Driven by a vision to reshape how we support environmental causes, Nina founded Milkywire to bridge the gap between companies and grassroots organizations. Today, Milkywire empowers local changemakers to create real impact, connecting companies with those on the front lines of conservation.
