## In short
Michael is an Environmentalist fighting to slow down the devastating effects of climate change due to deforestation by planting millions of trees and educating a future generation of environmentalists. 

**Taking action**
Nine years ago I was part of Rotaract Kenya which ushered me into the world of humanitarian service. During my time as President of the club I fell in love with the forests and nature. This led me to keep engaging friends, family and even the public through social media in taking action in conserving the environment. 

**Damaged forests**
Deforestation is a big problem in Kenya and currently closed canopy forests cover only 2 % of the country. This is a result of overexploitation, illegal logging and resource degradation which causes erosions, flooding and loss of biodiversity. In order to slow down the pace of global warming, we need to conserve the forests that we have, and restore what’s been damaged.

**Planting five million trees**
I work together with volunteers with the goal to enable the people, young and old, to take responsibility for the environment; caring for it and conserving it. The work we do is mainly in teaching and training students in primary schools how to plant and care for trees. We train them through the process of setting up a tree nursery and caring for the seedlings until they are transplanted. My ambition is to plant five million trees in Kenya.

## My organization

Miti Alliance Ltd’s mission is to sustain life through planting, growing and maintaining trees. The work can be defined with three areas; to educate, to empower and to sustain.

The tree planting activities organized by Miti Alliance have been carried out over period of over nine years now and they are continuing. Some of the projects were personal initiatives while others were carried out as partnerships.

Here are a few of the different projects that have been undertaken across Kenya:

- Mau forest tree planting: In conjunction with Miss Kenya 2009 (Fiona Konchellar) and the office of the then Prime Minister we planted 10,000 trees.
- Seven Seas Technologies tree planting: Organized a tree planting session for the Seven Seas Technologies, where we planted 300 trees in the Karura Forest.
- Kenya High School tree planting: Planted 2500 trees in the school grounds in conjunction with the Kenya High students, National bank of Kenya, Nairobi Global Shapers and Rotaract Kenya.
- Various tree plantings minimum 200-400 Trees: Karura Forest – Nigeria High Commission, LUC District 10, Ngong Forest Sanctuary – LUC, Rotaract District Conference and Assembly and Nairobi Global Shapers tree plantings.
- Plant Your Age Campaign: Led the social media campaign towards the actual event held at the Nairobi national park with a successful culmination of the tree planting.
