## In short

Tomas fights to clean up one of the most polluted places in all of Europe - the archipelago on the west coast of Sweden.

**Ocean plastics**
It’s often said that soon we’ll have more plastic than fish in our oceans, and from what we can see that does not seem too far off. 

**The most polluted place**
Where I live in Bohuslän, Sweden, marine debris from all over the world drifts ashore because it’s an area where several big oceanic streams meet. So basically, trash all the way from southern Europe, the UK and the Baltic Sea ends up here. 

**Mission: Beach cleanup**
For the past two years we have been going out to the islands in the archipelago, to pick up plastics every week, all year around. Sometimes we have volunteers but most of the time it’s just me and Emil. We collect the plastic we find, put it in bags and transport it to the recycling stations on the mainland. 


## Achievements and highlights
Over the past three years, we have collected about 80 metric tons of marine debris, primarily plastics.

## My organization
I have run my proprietorship since 2011 and since 2015 the primary focus has been nature conservation of the nature reserves in Bohuslän. At the outset, beach cleaning and plastic pollution was just a small part of it but since 2018 that has been the main focus and I’m now part of Pelagiska, cooperation between the proprietorships of me and Emil Olofsson.

Oceans free from plastic.

**Our mission**
To clean our beaches from all plastic.

Our work is primarily funded by Västkusstiftelsen within their project “Clean coasts” with exception from a few corporate donations. Since our start in 2018 we have cleaned over 100 places and documented all of them, as well as the location, the amount of plastic and the time it took at Strandstädarkartan (beach cleaning map) which can be found here.
