The Oceans and Seas Fund brings together a diverse range of projects, each tackling unique challenges and themes. Centered around three core pillars, the fund’s framework is designed to drive impact across key areas.
Protect Marine Wildlife
Marine biodiversity is in a state of alarming decline, as key species such as whales, sharks, and sea turtles are endangered by habitat destruction, pollution, and excessive fishing. Currently, a mere 8.2% of the world's oceans have protection. There is an urgent requirement to secure an extra 23% as protected areas by 2030. Milkywire supports organizations committed to preserving marine life by engaging in direct protection efforts, conducting research, and generating knowledge. Additionally, we endorse projects aimed at establishing marine protected areas at both national and local levels.
The Inhambane Province in Mozambique hosts diverse marine megafauna populations, including manta rays and whale sharks, which face threats from overfishing and poaching. Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) plays a crucial role in protecting these species by conducting research and providing data to support conservation efforts. MMF contributes to adaptive management plans, advocating for expanded marine protected areas and addressing looming threats from industrial projects like oil and gas exploration and sand mining.
Reduce Marine Pollution
The escalating plastic crisis threatens marine life, annually, 11 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans, joining an existing 200 million metric tons. There is a critical and pressing need to reduce the volume of plastics and other debris currently polluting marine ecosystems. Milkywire supports organizations that are involved in plastic reduction and other cleanup efforts aimed at minimizing waste in the oceans.
Final Straw Foundation is dedicated to preserving clean and protected waters by combating plastic pollution in the Solent, a unique coastal region in Britain. Through inspirational projects, awareness campaigns, and education, they empower individuals, communities, and businesses to take practical actions towards reducing plastic use and promoting positive environmental behaviors.

Mangroves, seagrasses, and other marine ecosystems act as carbon sinks, and shield coastal regions from storms, erosion, and help maintain water quality. They provide economic benefits through industries like tourism and fisheries and carry cultural importance as well. Milkywire supports numerous projects aimed at safeguarding and rejuvenating mangroves and other marine ecosystems for future generations. We support organizations that engage in grassroots efforts and work closely with local communities, while also advocating for policy changes at both the local and national levels.

Namaka Conservation Science is committed to protecting endangered sea turtles in Costa Rica from threats like illegal hunting and bycatch in fisheries. They safeguard nesting beaches, secure eggs, and work with local fishers on safer fishing practices. Additionally, they tackle plastic pollution and climate-related habitat loss. Through research, community involvement, and creating jobs, Namaka strives to curb illegal hunting and encourage sustainable conservation, safeguarding sea turtles for the future.

Launched in 2018, Hands 2 Oceans conducts regular dives to clear toxic waste, like lead batteries and electric scooters, from the Swedish east coast. With 300+ dives and 344,000 Kg of waste removed, the project aims to reduce environmental harm and promote recycling for a cleaner, safer ocean.
