Each year, we cut down enough forest to cover Iceland and destroy vast natural and cultivated landscapes – driving species to extinction and intensifying climate change. Forests are fundamental to our survival, absorbing 30 % of global CO2 emissions and providing a home to 80 % of the world's biodiversity while existing landscapes have great cultural, agricultural, and ecological significance.
