The Nature Transformation Fund is a curated portfolio of projects designed to drive transformative environmental action by protecting biodiversity, empowering local communities, and restoring critical ecosystems. Built on the success of Give One, the NTF bridges the global conservation funding gap and makes it easier for companies to join forces and deliver measurable, lasting impact. By aligning with Global Biodiversity Targets, the fund contributes to a healthier, more sustainable planet.
Fund total: $16.4M
Klarna has contributed $16.3M since 2021.
Klarna has supported a total of 66 projects in 38 countries.
In 2021, Klarna and Milkywire launched "Give One," a call-to-action initiative that supported holistic programs at the intersection of biodiversity, climate, and people. Klarna pledged to donate 1% of future funding rounds, earmarking $16.3 million to fund impactful projects. Over three years, this effort supported 53 initiatives across 31 countries, with 18 receiving continuous support. Notable achievements include planting 4.9 million native saplings in the Andes, restoring 195 hectares of wildflower-rich grasslands in the UK, and safeguarding the critically endangered Javan rhino in Indonesia. In 2024, the Nature Transformation Fund was launched to expand this work, leveraging lessons learned from Give One and providing a portfolio approach well-suited for joint corporate efforts. The fund’s framework was developed in collaboration with an external advisory group of scientific experts, ensuring every project aligns with leading science and best practices.

The Nature Transformation Fund advances its mission through three essential pillars. Innovative Finance harnesses conservation and blended finance to protect natural resources, ensuring sustainable funding and fostering community ownership. Policy & Accountability promotes science-backed policies and strategic litigation, empowering local communities to shape fair and effective environmental solutions. Ecosystem Health supports the ambitious '30x30' biodiversity targets, working to preserve 30% of the world’s land and marine areas by 2030 to combat biodiversity loss and safeguard vital ecosystems for future generations.

The portfolio is a dynamic solution for companies to contribute to global biodiversity targets through three pillars: (1) policy and accountability to address systemic challenges; (2) hands-on protection and restoration; (3) innovative financing to drive change. It takes an impact-first approach, aiming to catalyse significant, lasting environmental change by prioritising local community needs and keeping people at the center.

This next phase by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) builds on their pilot work tackling urban ecology and water management challenges in Bengaluru, India. By integrating ecological restoration with sustainable urban planning, the initiative aims to enhance biodiversity and improve water security through eco-restoration of urban lakes and wetlands, pilot interventions on constructed ponds at the IIHS Kengeri campus, and long-term monitoring to establish baselines for biodiversity, environmental health, and ecosystem services.

The Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA) Incubator aims to identify, incubate, and enhance conservation finance solutions and tools to drive greater impact. We are supporting the fourth cohort, which targets 16 high-potential conservation finance concepts. Of these, eight will receive seed grants, and all will benefit from intensive mentorship, capacity-building workshops, and monthly expert sessions. By nurturing these concepts, the program aims to unlock additional funding and scale impactful conservation initiatives worldwide.
