Building on Give One

A legacy of environmental impact

In 2021, Klarna and Milkywire launched "Give One," a call-to-action initiative that supported holistic programs at the intersection of biodiversity, climate, and people. Klarna pledged to donate 1% of future funding rounds, earmarking $16.3 million to fund impactful projects. Over three years, this effort supported 53 initiatives across 31 countries, with 18 receiving continuous support. Notable achievements include planting 4.9 million native saplings in the Andes, restoring 195 hectares of wildflower-rich grasslands in the UK, and safeguarding the critically endangered Javan rhino in Indonesia. In 2024, the Nature Transformation Fund was launched to expand this work, leveraging lessons learned from Give One and providing a portfolio approach well-suited for joint corporate efforts. The fund’s framework was developed in collaboration with an external advisory group of scientific experts, ensuring every project aligns with leading science and best practices.

Nature Transformation Fund

The portfolio is a dynamic solution for companies to contribute to global biodiversity targets through three pillars: (1) policy and accountability to address systemic challenges; (2) hands-on protection and restoration; (3) innovative financing to drive change. It takes an impact-first approach, aiming to catalyse significant, lasting environmental change by prioritising local community needs and keeping people at the center.

TerraFund for AFR100 Ghana

Ghana

Terrafund for AFR100 is an initiative by One Tree Planted and its partners. The goal is to help local people in Africa to grow trees, which will in turn develop sustainable livelihoods that create an alternative to deforestation, and enhance their livelihoods. This initiative consists of two organizations Herp Ghana and Hen Mpoano. Herp Ghana focuses on amphibian conservation through habitat restoration and community engagement, through tree planting and income enhancement for rural communities. Hen Mpoano supports coastal communities through integrated management of coastal and marine ecosystems, emphasizing mangrove restoration, beekeeping, and organic farming for environmental conservation.

Indonesia

Blue Alliance aims to regenerate coral reefs and strengthen coastal livelihoods in Indonesia by expanding their co-management model for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Building on successful implementation across 16 MPAs in Central Sulawesi (600,000 ha), the new project will establish co-management agreements with the Provincial Government of Maluku to protect an additional 1.1 million-hectare MPA. This work is embedded in their Blue Finance Impact Facility, a blended finance mechanism that develops reef-positive businesses in aquaculture, sustainable seafood, ecotourism, and blue carbon, connecting ecological restoration with local income generation. Revenues from these enterprises are reinvested into MPA management, creating financially self-sustaining conservation systems that support fisherfolk, enhance biodiversity protection, and mobilize blended finance for long-term impact.
