Murthy is a Conservation Biologist fighting for snakes with a deeper focus on the rare king cobra. He educates locals about the important role snakes play in the ecosystem and how they protect humans from deadly diseases by controlling rodent populations

**Surrounded by wildlife**
I grew up in a small village surrounded by wildlife, and as a teenager I became passionate about snakes. I started studying these incredible reptiles and realized I wanted to work as a conservationist and help protect misunderstood species.

**Killing out of fear**
The human-snake conflict in my country is severe and people are killing king cobras out of fear and ignorance. But king cobras play an important role in the ecosystem, they prey on other, often venomous, snakes who in turn prey on rodents. This controls rodent populations and since rodents carry diseases it helps prevent the spread of deadly diseases amongst humans. 

**The king cobra’s best friend**
Me and my team work to create a harmonious relationship between humans and snakes through community outreach, informing locals that simple precautions like using shoes and flashlights can help save the lives of both people and snakes. We also do snake rescues and research, aiming at clear conservation goals to protect king cobras and other snakes. 

## My organization 
The Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society’s (EGWS) mission is conservation of Eastern Ghats Biodiversity through harmonizing people with nature.

EGWS is a non-profit organization which promotes community-based wildlife conservation in the Eastern Ghats region of South India through education, conservation-oriented research, public participation, institutional capacity building and sustainable development. It is registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act, 2001.

The work within the organization includes: 
- Wildlife and biodiversity surveys.
- Wildlife conservation education and public awareness programs.
- Facilitate citizen science projects to encourage a participatory approach for conservation.
- Human-wildlife conflict management.
- Engaging local communities in the protection of wild habitats.
- Create a win-win setting for both people and wildlife to ensure long term survival of flora and fauna of Eastern Ghats.
